Following from a previous newsletter article, warning of the potential threat of tax fraud activity, a recent Fairfax Media investigation has revealed identity fraudsters were obtaining hundreds of tax file numbers every day.
Furthermore, the ATO had been targeted more than 11,000 times in the 2014-15 financial year in an attempt to steal tax refunds. This has led to more than 26,000 tax returns being delayed, as they were suspected to be the work of identity fraudsters.
