Recently I attended a Seminar recently and was quite shocked to learn of the absolute minefield of threats to cyber security. There are two main threats in cyber security:
Social: gaining personal information. In the attached video you will see a hacker obtain personal information in two minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kkOKvPrdZ4
Technical: some tips in Cyber Hygiene:
- Update your devices – PCs/Mobiles – often times updates contain the latest protection
- Don’t share passwords with anyone (even family and friends)
- Don’t use the same passwords for social media and work
- Maybe use a phrase instead of a password: eg. Where did I put my c0ffee? Note: use a zero instead of the letter ‘o’
- Use a password manager. These sites store encrypted passwords online
- Don’t click on links in emails/SMS/whatsapp. Always use your browser
- Don’t click on advertising in your browser or on facebook
- Backup your data
